Political Ramblings 2008

Sun Sep 7, 2008, 12:20 PM
Here is a semi-stream-of-consciousness rant that I wrote down as I watched three hours of the Republican National Convention rebroadcast from midnight to 3am a few days ago...

Mitt Romney: scary over-patriotism. Stop this 'USA is the greatest thing since the Big Bang' bullshit. (That was a great alliteration.) Don't they realize that this is why other countries hate us? We're so full of ourselves. We need to adopt a more global/share-the-world-with-others view.

Stop the political correctness: we shouldn't support anything that restricts our freedom of speech.

Wal-Mart commercials during the Republican National Convention...hmmm...

Less taxes = good if the outcome is good. Using Reaganomics will not produce these ideal outcomes, based on past results. Just take a look at what Reagan himself did.

[Dancing: do we realize how absurd this is?]

Do you see how they twist Palin's inexperience into "she made executive decisions - that's better than Obama - she's MORE experienced than Obama - she's ready to be president!"

[Huckabee - looking more and more like a Gentile Richard Kind.]

Yeah, everybody wants "less government" running their lives...expect maybe poor people...you know what, screw 'em!

Saw two black people so far...

Isn't the Republican Party all about selfish monetary interests?

WOW. HUCKABEE. WOW. I just heard the most kiss-ass veteran story I've ever heard. [You can find this doozy online.] According to Huckabee, John McCain is the reason I have a school desk.

That 17-year-old Palin girl has quite huge...tracts of land.

Why are sacrificing individuality for our country ("Country First"? What garbage.)

...OK, five black people.

What's this "less government" crap and then urging that we need strong leadership under the president? That isn't a contradiction? A strong executive branch isn't "more" government?

Republicans are all about "family values" until Palin's daughter has a baby at 17 and then they put FULL support behind her. Imagine if Obama's daughter pulled that kinda stunt. They'd be all over him. "Is this the kind of man you want leading your country? A man who is this lax in his morals? and devotion to God??? (CLAP CLAP) ....GOD.... (CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP) I was talking to Jesus the other day and he told me he really believed in the Republican Party. (CLAPS CLASP CLASPSPS CLAP) He said he'd vote for John McCain any chance he'd get. Well, all I really want to stress is how much I truly believe in Jesus and God and Jesus. You can never really say too much how religious I am. Yep, I'm just goddamn religious. There's no end to the religiosity coursing through my body."

In the three hours of watching, not one person uttered that foul syllable, "Bush." And yet they pinned all the terrible policies of the last eight years on "liberals." They want an end to a "liberal" Washington. But liberals have had control of the senate for only two of the last eight years... So those failed policies have probably come from the conservatives.

Sarah Palin:
"I've been governor for two whole years but I'm the greatest thing that's ever happened to Alaska! So what if it's the third least populated state in the country? There's huge responsibility that comes along with that much ice! Most people can't believe how much ice there is! You know, I control 20% of the globe's oil exports! So really, I'm like an energy genius. Well, I really only have the power to tax oil exports, which I do in accordance to Alaskan law that's already been laid down generations ago, but still, I'm cutting edge! I'll pull this nation out of the energy crisis! I've had so much experience, Obama wishes he had as much experience as me. What? He taught constitutional law for twelve years at the University of Chicago Law School, something actually relevant to being the president, with the power to veto a decision by Congress and all? Well, piss on him. I actually made executive decisions. Imagine the shitload of executive decisions I made in two years! I said no to that Bridge to Nowhere....well, yeah only after it was ridiculed by the country as a vain attempt to bring more money into Alaska...I was a great mayor....that's experience enough to be President..."

I'm done.
